The Russian car market grew by 12% in 2017

Sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles grew by 14% to 166,013 cars in Russia in December. As a result of 2017, the Russian car market grew by 11.9% to 1 million 595 thousand 737 cars, according to the Association of European Business. As noted in the AEB, the dynamics of December sales remained in tune with the previous months: sales improved in percentage terms by a two-digit amount compared to the same month of the last year.

Thus, despite a weak start in January and February, for the whole year sales of passenger and LCV in Russia grew by 11.9% year-on-year to the level of 1 million 596 thousand units. The market has a long way to return to its previous size, but the first and very important step in the right direction is made, states the association.

Leadership in the Russian car market is held by AvtoVAZ, which sold 311,588 LADA cars in the last year, which is more by 17% than a year ago. The second place in terms of sales was occupied by KIA - sales of 181,947 cars (+ 22%) provided the Korean brand with the leadership in the foreign car market. Hyundai keeps the third line with the figure of 157,858 sold cars, which is more by 9% than in the previous year. Further Renault follows - cars of this brand were chosen by 136,682 buyers (+ 17%).

The top five of leaders is closed by Toyota, whose sales remained at the last year's level and they were 94,238 cars. The TOP-10 of the best-selling brands also included Volkswagen (89469 units, + 21%), Nissan (76,000 units, + 8%), Skoda (62302 units, + 12%), GAZ (58617 units, + 5%), and Ford (50,360 units, + 18%).
